Remote Assessments—United States

Are you frustrated that you haven’t found a learning disabilities specialist, educational diagnostician, or other professional who sees the whole picture beyond labels?
Does your student need a different kind of help than what you have found so far?
Do you believe that your child may be gifted and also experiences an unknown difficulty that is interfering with classroom success?
Are you a homeschooling family and feel that one of your children may need additional help to be a happier and more successful learner?
Has your private school suggested that your student would benefit from a full educational diagnostic assessment?
Is there a reduced availability of testing services, or perhaps currently  no assessment services, provided in your public school district?
Has your child been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, or Dyscalculia but you’re still looking for more information and more choices about how to help your bright child do well academically?

Across the U.S. are locations where comprehensive educational diagnostic assessments are not available locally and it is too far to travel to our office for the testing sessions, which are a necessary part of each assessment.  We have decided to provide the testing sessions remotely because of urgent requests from parents who are working hard to find a wider, more holistic assessment process for their student.

You can send Dr. Minton an email at drminton@mintonlearning.com if you would like to schedule an initial short informational meeting to learn more. Please include the city and state where you live, along with your student’s age and grade placement,  and a few words about your reason for considering an assessment. I will respond to you so that we can schedule an initial informational session, for which there is no charge.

Remote Assessments—International

We now provide remote comprehensive educational diagnostic assessments, including the testing sessions that are a vital part of that process.  American students whose families live and work overseas are often enrolled in excellent international schools. Although your student may receive learning resource services at school, you may not have access locally to professional services for a learning disabilities assessment conducted in American English, utilizing tests that are recognized in the U.S., and written with the terminology expected by the special education teams at American public and private schools, colleges and universities.

It is important when returning to the U.S. to have in-hand a recent professional educational assessment to serve as documentation of a comprehensive diagnosis of your student’s learning difficulties and strengths, including recommendations for services and classroom accommodations.  Families who are staying abroad long-term, which may include international transfers, find that a thorough understanding of their student’s learning difficulties will contribute to academic success, both now and in the future. A student who is at the end of high school will need a recent assessment, which includes  professional documentation of their learning disabilities, in order to qualify for accommodations and other services at their American or Canadian college or university.

If you would like more information or are ready to schedule a remote assessment, send an email to Dr. Minton at drminton@mintonlearning.com. Please include the country where you currently reside; your student’s age and grade placement; some information about their current school; and, your reason for seeking an assessment.  I will respond to you soon to schedule an initial informational session of about 30 minutes, for which there is no charge.

Second Opinion Remote Consultations

Sometimes a student has already completed a professional learning disabilities assessment, but the recommendations have not been helpful and you would like a second opinion. If the assessment was conducted recently, within the past 2-3 years, and all of the scores are included in the report, I can often utilize that information to provide a helpful second opinion.  This second opinion service is provided remotely by Dr. Minton for students both in the U.S. and internationally.

Please send an email to drminton@mintonlearning.com if you would like more information about how the process works or to schedule a second opinion consultation. Include in the email your location, city/state or country where you live and where your student attends school; information about the degree held by the professional who conducted the previous assessment and the date of the assessment; the age and grade placement of the student; and, and a few sentences about why you’re seeking a second opinion. The informational session by phone or videoconference is about 30 minutes, for which there is no charge.

Second opinion consultations are available for students from kindergarten through college, including homeschool students. This process has worked well for families across the US and internationally and I would look forward to working with you.
